BIOGRAPHY OF ORIGINAL OWNERS AND FAMILY-
Edley Headley Payne immigrated from Western Europe in 1861 with his wife, Mary, and two daughters, Phoebe and Lucy Ann. According to Edley's obituary they drove from Milwaukee to Neenah on a team of horses. On October 28, 1865,
Edley made a full payment to purchase 170 acres of land in the Town of Vinland. Edley and Mary had 5 more kids, Ida, Julia, Charles, Arthur, and Fred. Because of farming successes, the Paynes moved into Neenah, building the Payne Residence in 1887. The Payne Residence on 105 North Park Avenue is located in Neenah's first ward.
Following Edley's death, his eldest son Arthur Edley Payne inherited the estate. The farming land was split equally to all other children as was inheritance.
